Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery has announced Beenyup Primary School as the official name for the new $18.9 million new primary school in Byford, which is set to open its doors in 2020. Beenyup Primary School, (formerly BYFORD SOUTH EAST PRIMARY SCHOOL (PLANNING NAME) will be located at 73 Lawrence Way, Byford.
Named after Beenyup Brook in Byford, it was a clear preference of the local school community. The Aboriginal meaning of the word Beenyup is ‘place of water’ which also reflects the school’s close proximity to the brook.
More than 500 students will learn in the brand new school which will open for the start of the 2020 school year.
The McGowan Government has invested more than $465 million to build new schools and upgrade existing facilities across the State, creating jobs for Western Australians and ensuring students have access to modern education facilities.
